What is Access Control?

For thousands of years, there have been thieves and criminals or wish to steel or cause damage. For the same length of time, however, there have been systems in place to counteract these troublemakers and keep law-abiding citizens as safe and happy as possible. Throughout history, these systems have gotten better and better in order to keep up with the criminals. As modern society moves further into the cyber age, these systems, known as access control systems, have become almost completely computer-controlled. This short blog will explain what access control is and how it works in the most simplified way.
Access control is, in reality, an everyday phenomenon. The possession of access control is of prime importance when persons seek to secure important, confidential, or sensitive information and equipment.
Access control is an electronic locking system which enables an authority to control access to areas. An access control system is generally seen as the second layer in the security of a physical structure. Hardware usually consists of an electronic locking device, 12V low voltage constant power supply, controller, reader and request to exit button. Installation cost varies as each individual site is unique and different in construction.
Access control can be controlled by Card, Fob keys, Pin, Fingerprint (Bio-metric) or swipe.
Lots of companies use proximity cards or fob keys to control physical access. An employee holds their card or fob key within a few inches of the reader; the reader receives a unique id from the card or fob key and transmits it to a controller that tells it whether or not to open the door. Staff time and attendance data is stored and can be retrieved within seconds by the administrator.
This is rather magical, considering that the tags are small in size and hold no battery.

We are more than happy to meet and explain this further with you and show you how this state of the art security control system can be useful. We can even supply you costing on the spot. Please feel free to contact us at anytime.
